Identifying Rail Sections The weight and type of most rails can easily be identified by referring to the dimensional diagrams on pages I-5 through I-21 in this catalog. For these and other sections, the tee rail sections data table on the preceeding page and above lists basic dimensions and identifies mill marks usually rolled on rail web. If a special section is not listed, simply place a piece of paper against the rail end, and impress its outline into the paper by pressing your fingers against the rail edges. Take note of the width of the base, rail height, and head dimensions as well as all numbers and letters on the side of the rail.
